The main hydraulic pump for an excavator is a positive displacement type device that pushes hydraulic fluid through the system. It is usually driven by an electric motor, although some models may use an internal combustion engine. The pump is responsible for providing the hydraulic pressure needed for the movement of the excavator’s boom, arm and bucket.
